Technical Tip

Change page orientation in RDL reports exported to Word documents
**
From time to time, our customers ask us to add certain configuration settings for customizing the export of RDL reports to Microsoft Word documents via Aspose.Words for Reporting Services. So, today we are going to talk about the page orientation setting.

Suppose, you have a report containing a wide table or matrix whose right part goes beyond the edge of the page. Microsoft renderers such as PDF would wrap the table to the next page but we don’t consider this as a neat approach because such report, when printed, might confuse the reader. Basically, this is a signal to the report’s designer that the report should be reworked. But, using Aspose.Words for Reporting Services, you can simply instruct the renderer to change page orientation from portrait to landscape. Unless the table is enormously wide, this trick should remedy the explained problem.

To change page orientation, please add the following lines to the C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server<Instance>\Reporting Services\ReportServer\rsreportserver.config file (the example is for the DOC renderer):
